Structural Engineer

Current position available for a Structural Engineer with excellent opportunity for advancement- broaden your understanding of the principles of structural engineering from textbook design to sustainable community construction and project management. Ideal candidates will offer experience in building, layout and detailed design, working with structural steel, reinforced concrete, and reinforced masonry.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

      • Oversees the production of specific jobs, completes drafting and documentation; delegates pieces of design and review work.
      • Participates in the review of project schedules, construction costs and project status.
      • Performs QA/QC related tasks.
      • Occasionally visits project sites.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND CERTIFICATION/LICENSE:

      • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering required.
      • Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred- preferred candidates will have the desire to work towards professional licensure.
      • Minimum 5 years of structural engineering professional experience.

Contract Administrator- Structural Engineering

Seeking a proactive, highly skilled, organized, top performing administrative professional with 5 years’ experience. The Contract Administrator should exhibit strong writing skills, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to generate creative ideas while working both independently and collaboratively. The successful candidate is expected to be a self-starter, multitasker who works well under pressure, and follows through on tasks.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

      • Act as the central point of contact for and respond to client requests for proposals.
      • Update and maintain the proposal schedule on a daily basis, recording project information, contacts, and proposal deadlines for projects; and create proposal files.
      • Monitor email and proposals, project schedules, and other project documents’ requirements.
      • Prepare proposals from documentation provided by the Structural Department Manager, using basic Microsoft Office tools.
      • Provide administrative support to the Structural Department Manager.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

      • 2-5 years administrative experience in an engineering firm.
      • Excellent oral & written communication skills, interpersonal and follow through skills.
      • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (familiar with Excel database tools)
      • Willingness to learn administrative procedures, basic accounting procedures, and specific structural technical terminology.
      • Computer savvy computer skills and knowledge of relevant software.
      • Experience with AIA contracts preferred.

Project Surveyor

Qualified candidates for the Project Surveyor position must be knowledgeable in Land Surveying for a variety of applications, including boundary determination, topographic and utility surveys, highway surveys and subdivisions. The position requires up-to-date knowledge of current field and office technologies, an ability to oversee projects, and mentor staff.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

      • Managing technical aspects of projects from start to finish under the direction and supervision of Department Manager.
      • Coordination of project tasks with field and office staff.
      • Managing project work load and schedule, and ensuring quality control for assigned projects.
      • Development of survey proposals.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND CERTIFICATION/LICENSE:

      • 5-10 years of experience in Land Surveying.
      • Associate's degree in Land Surveying, Civil Engineering or a related field preferred.
      • New York State Professional Land Surveyor License not required, but preferred candidate will have a desire to work toward licensure.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND QUALIFICATIONS:

      • Must be knowledgeable in all aspects of Land Surveying, including boundary determinations, traverse/control adjustments, topographic surveying/mapping, easement acquisitions, NYSDOT Standards and Procedures, and ALTA requirements.
      • Knowledge of and experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D.
      • Ability to perform legal research and boundary computations.

Senior Survey Technicians 

The Senior Survey Technician coordinates and performs drafting of projects to ensure that they are completed within technical, project, budgetary, and timeline constraints.  This position reviews projects for compliance with company policies and standards, as well as ensures a smooth interface with other disciplines within the firm and project team. Reports directly to the Project Surveyor or Project Manager.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

      • Understands and follows the company’s standard CAD procedures for layering, line types, colors, and standard drawing procedures for sheet layout.  (AutoCAD Civil 3D, Bentley MicroStation, and Bentley InRoads)
      • Works under minimum supervision of project manager and project surveyor to prepare finished drawings from very complex sketches, notes, layouts, detail, and verbal instruction.
      • Checks drawings for quality assurance purposes.
      • Will be required to prepare calculations.
      • Makes sure drafting assignments are of quality and within budget hours and on schedule.
      • Reduces field data for preparation of surveys by importing raw field files and using calculated points for survey plan preparation in CAD.
      • Provides research for survey projects, including deed, utility, roadway and subdivision map research.
      • Remains current with changes and upgrades in CAD systems used and continually works to improve efficiency.
      • Calculates invert and subsurface utility information based on field measurements and record maps.
      • Prepares written descriptions and plots deeds.
      • Assists with office filing, data download, and electronic file management.
      • Recommends new approaches and ideas that continuously improve efficiency and services performed.
      • Keeps Project Manager aware of workload and requests work when needed; maintains a high level of productivity.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND CERTIFICATION/LICENSE:

      • High School diploma or higher.
      • Familiarity with current local, state, and surveying regulations.
      • Experience working with topographic, boundary, utility, layout, and GPS mapping.
      • Strong field skills and mathematical ability.

Asbestos Inspector

Ravi Engineering & Land Surveying, P.C. is seeking an asbestos inspector to join their growing team. Primary tasks would include performing on-site hazardous materials inspections including asbestos, lead, PCB and hazardous waste inventory.  This is a career position that will lead to a definitive track of advancement for the right motivated individual.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND CERTIFICATION/LICENSE:

      • Current Inspector asbestos certification
      • OSHA 10-hour certification preferred
      • OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER certification
      • Minimum of 1 year experience performing inspections duties

      • Valid Driver’s License with clean record

Project Monitor / Air Technician 

Project Monitor/ Air Technicians are present on-site throughout asbestos abatement projects and are responsible for ensuring the scope, phasing and timing of the abatement project. Project Monitor/ Air Technician maintain records on-site, record site conditions, establish air sampling equipment, collect required air samples and perform visual inspections to ensure completeness of abatement during the project. At the conclusion of the project the Project Monitor/ Air Technician would generate a report.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

      • Collection of air samples before, during and after the completion of the asbestos abatement project.
      • Complete a chain-of-custody form to accompany the air samples.
      • Document air sample locations on a floor plan.
      • Prepare and/or deliver samples daily to the laboratory for analysis.
      • Complete a daily project log detailing the actions/activities of the project monitor/air sampling technician, the asbestos abatement contractor, the building owner/client, any other visitors, on work completed that day.
      • Oversee the actions of the asbestos abatement contractor. This will require an understanding of the regulations and the scope of work.
      • Organize a closeout report that includes a summary of the work performed, the laboratory reports, sample locations and daily logs for insertion into the project report.
      • Other job duties may be assigned by the Environmental Department Manager.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND CERTIFICATION/LICENSE:

      • NYS Certification (Project Monitor/Air Tech) preferred or ability to obtain
      • OSHA 10-hr certification, or ability to become certified
      • One year of experience (preferred)

Bridge Inspection Team Leader

RE&LS is immediately seeking a Bridge Inspection Team Leader to work on bridge inspection projects in Western New York areas. We are looking for a self-motivated, team-oriented engineer with strong communication skills and a working knowledge of bridges (design, construction, and/or condition inspections).

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

      • Lead field inspection team of up to 3 people
      • Coordinate inspection schedules and access equipment
      • Supervise assistant inspectors and special access contractors
      • Assess bridge element conditions and document findings
      • Prepare inspection reports

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND CERTIFICATION/LICENSE:

      • BS in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited college or university
      • 4-5 years bridge design and/or bridge inspection experience
      • NYS Professional Engineering license required
      • Must possess a valid driver’s license

Bridge Load Rating Engineer

RE&LS is immediately seeking a Bridge Load Rating Engineer to work on bridge inspection projects in the Western New York area. We are looking for a self-motivated, team-oriented engineer with strong communication skills and a working knowledge of bridges (design, load rating, construction, and/or condition inspections).

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

      • Perform Level 1 Load Ratings and structural analyses on in-service bridges
      • Update and create NYSDOT Level 2 Load Rating input data
      • Supervise assistant load rating engineer
      • Perform in-depth field inspections for load ratings
      • Prepare load rating reports

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND CERTIFICATION/LICENSE:

      • BS in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited college or university
      • 4-5 years bridge design and/or bridge inspection load rating experience
      • NYS Professional Engineering license required

Assistant Team Leader

RE&LS have a position available for an Assistant Team Leader on a bridge inspection team. The selected candidate will be working with a Professional Engineer team leader to inspect bridges in the Rochester or Buffalo areas. Bridge safety inspections are performed on an annual basis for the New York State Department of Transportation and follow federal requirements for quality and documentation. Familiarity and experience as a bridge inspector is a very valuable skill for anyone considering bridge design, bridge construction inspection and management.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

      • Field inspection duties include observing bridge conditions, rating bridge components, measuring defects and deterioration and photographic documentation.

Bridge Engineer (Rochester/Buffalo)

RE&LS is currently seeking a Bridge Engineer to perform bridge design and possible condition inspections in support of various transportation projects. We are looking for someone who can work semi-independently under senior engineers and coordinate with other disciplines. Good communication and writing skills are essential as this person will assist senior engineers in communicating with clients on technical matters. It is expected that this individual will take on increasingly challenging assignments and progress to senior engineer role.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND CERTIFICATION/LICENSE:

      • B.S.C.E. with concentration in structures.
      • 5-10 years of experience in bridge design.
      • Strong knowledge of AASHTO LRFD specifications and familiar with NYSDOT design standards.
      • NY PE license preferred.
      • AutoCadd and Microstation skills helpful.

Construction Inspectors (NY & PA)

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

      • Ability to prepare correspondence, reports, and recommendations concerning construction issues.
      • Must have a valid driver's license and a reliable vehicle.
      • Occasional irregular or extended work hours such as Night Shift /Weekend work availability.
      • Additional requirements include excellent communications skills, ability to read and interpret plans and specifications, and ability to perform quantity and engineering computations.

    • Candidates must have NICET Certification in Transportation/Highway and Bridge Construction; (NYSDOT, NYSTA experience preferred); ACI or ATSSA certifications are also desirable.
